Agricultural Extension Education

The programme’s goal is to produce graduates with technical and professional competencies in agricultural extension and rural development. The Programme aims to prepare graduates, who are competent communicators, system thinkers, problem analysts and solvers who possess desirable leadership attributes and skills that will enable them conceptualize, plan, implement, monitor, and evaluate agricultural and related development programmes and projects at the community level. The specific objectives are to:

  • Provide students with the requisite knowledge base in agriculture in response to current and emerging challenges in the fields of agriculture and rural development.
  • Provide and promote sound basic scientific training as a foundation for the development of agricultural extension, taking into account indigenous culture, the need to enhance national unity
  • Equip students with up-to-date technical and human relation skills to enable them meet the challenges of the ever-increasing and complex issues in agriculture and rural development
  • Develop student’s competencies in innovative thinking as agricultural and community development professionals in rural and peri-urban
  • Equip students with desirable attitudes, knowledge and skills for post-graduate training in agricultural extension and rural development
