Food Science Nutrition and Technology

Food Science Nutrition and Technology

The department Food science Nutrition and Technology of Karatina University has two Under graduate degree Programmes:

-Bachelor of Science in Human Nutrition and Dietetics

-Bachelor of Science in Food Science and Nutrition

The department endeavour to ensure quality training and participation in outreach activities and research contributing to the University vision and mission.  Graduates from the department are recognized international and nationally. The graduates have got international scholarships for short courses and postgraduate courses overseas in South Korea, United Kingdom, Hungary among other. The students have also received lucrative scholarship awards academic institutions.

Student Activities

The alumni have also worked in organizations such as Kenya red cross, Kenya breweries, Amesi Foods, mac nuts processors, Agriterra , Getrudes hospital, Moi teaching and referral hospitals 

Karatina University students are absorbed in attachment places where they eventually secure employment . Some of these have been, Kenyatta National hospital, Nyeri County referral hospital, Nakuru County teaching and referral hospital, Kevian food industries, Cocacola, Brookside dairies LTD ,Kenya National Cereals board , ea Research Institute, Kenya Tea Development Agency, Kenya Bureau of Standards, Kenya Cooperative Creameries, Jaramongi Oginga Odinga, Referal Hospital,among other.

Some FSN alumni who qualified for international short and postgraduate courses overseas. The department aptly prepares students to work in various organizations such as the government ministries, parastatal, food industry, health facilities, NGOs, research institutions and entrepreneurial activities of  food science nutrition and dietetics
